Cost of Living Crisis

As people everywhere feel the impact of the worst cost of living crisis in years, those with a young family member in hospital are being hit particularly hard, and many are struggling to make ends meet.

Life costs more for families with a sick child in hospital

At Ronald McDonald House Charities UK, we know that life costs more if your child is being treated in hospital, especially when that treatment isn’t close to home.

We conducted research to better understand how the families we look after are affected.

Our survey included parents and carers who’d stayed in a Ronald McDonald House within the last six months.

Accommodation costs

We save families, on average, £1,240 each in accommodation costs, (based on 2021 stats).

Travel time

In 2022, we saved families, on average, from travelling 73 miles each day

Food and other essentials

Many of our Houses provide food items, toiletries, and other essentials, free-of-charge

Work spaces

We help to enable remote working, with free broadband and Wi-Fi and quiet spaces to work
