We won an Award!
March 22, 2024
On Wednesday 20 March, Ronald McDonald House Charities UK attended the Smiley Charity Film Awards 2024 at the ODEON Luxe, in London’s Leicester Square. Having entered our powerful and emotive film Remembering Lukas into the Longform Over £10 Million turnover category, we were thrilled to go on to win the Gold People’s Choice award in our category.
Our film was created to promote Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, when we shared the heartbreaking story of Lukas and his parents, Katy, and Andrew, who stayed in our Ronald McDonald House Manchester when Lukas was diagnosed with a brain tumour. Their moving story details how the House and the Charity made a real difference, during such an incredibly difficult time.
The Smiley Charity Film Awards is an annual event that celebrates the best in charitable filmmaking, recognising films that have made a significant impact in raising awareness and funds for various causes. The People’s Choice Award is particularly special, as it is voted for by the public, showcasing the extraordinary impact Lukas’ story has had on its viewers.
Damian Leonard, Marketing Manager at Ronald McDonald House Charities UK, attended the awards ceremony. He said: “We’re so grateful to everyone who took the time to vote for us and helped us triumph amongst fierce competition. Your support means our important film reached a wider audience which, in turn, has helped to raise awareness of our vital cause.”
He added: “It was a real privilege to be involved in this year’s event, which was a remarkable celebration of cause-based storytelling, showcasing an array of entertaining, thought-provoking, and inspiring films. We want to extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the winners on the night”.
A special thank you to every one of you who voted, to Proud Mary Productions who produced the film, and to the wonderful Proud family.
