Major investment for our Alder Hey House
We’re undertaking a major refurbishment of our largest Ronald McDonald House, MacHouse, at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. Help us transform the family experience and sustain our mission of offering a comforting ‘home away from home’ for the future.
Background
Since 1993, Ronald McDonald House Alder Hey, more fondly known as MacHouse, has offered a free ‘home away from home’ for families with children at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.
Initially independent, MacHouse has now tripled in size to become Europe’s largest Ronald McDonald House, helping thousands of families. In 2022, Alder Hey House joined Ronald McDonald House Charities UK, leading to a significant investment to enhance facilities for families and staff.
Refurbishment details
The House is undergoing a major £11 million transformation project, its biggest refurbishment yet. This modernization effort aims to meet the needs of families and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital for years to come. The project will be completed in two phases, with the facility to remain partly operational during the works. By late 2025, the House will be upgraded to match the high-quality standards of Ronald McDonald House Charities UK’s ‘home away from home’ accommodations.

Support our appeal
This is our biggest refurbishment yet, and we need your support. With £9 million already raised, we are seeking the local community’s help to secure the final £2 million.
