We’re excited to announce a multi-million-pound refurb of our largest Ronald McDonald House, at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. The work will begin in early 2024 and will benefit many of the thousands of families whose children and young people are cared for at the hospital every year. But we need your help to make it happen!
Ronald McDonald House Alder Hey opened in 1993, located within minutes of the world-famous Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. With 83 family bedrooms, it is the largest Ronald McDonald House in Europe and provides free accommodation for families of children being treated at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. Previously independent, The Alder Hey House officially became part of the Ronald McDonald House Charities UK family in 2022.
The House’s major improvement project will see more than £11 million invested into a substantial refurb to ensure the 30-year-old building, which requires major modernisation, can continue to meet the needs of families and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital for many years to come.
The work will take place in two phases, allowing the House to remain partly operational throughout. It will bring the facility up to the high-quality standards of Ronald McDonald House Charities UK’s nationwide ‘home away from home’ accommodation and is due to be complete in late 2025.
“The fact we didn’t have to worry about where to stay was just amazing and gave us such peace of mind. Over the past few years, we’ve raised around £10k for the Charity, as we’ve always been keen to give something back. I’d urge anyone who can to support the project, as you never know when you or your family might need this wonderful facility.”
Claire Sharples.
Claire and her husband Mike, stayed at the House in 2018 when their new-born son required heart surgery at just 10 days old.
We have raised and designated £9 million towards the work, and we need the help of the local community to raise the final £2 million.
We are calling on individuals, groups, schools and businesses across Merseyside and the Northwest to donate or raise funds to help us reach our target and provide families for years to come with a beautiful space to call their ‘home away from home’.
