Don’t Forget About Photo Consent

Taking photos during your fundraising event is a great idea, and we love to see your photos afterwards, but make sure to let everyone know that you plan to take photos and give them the chance to opt out.

We need signed photo consent forms to use your photos, so let us know and we can send some forms over ahead of your fundraiser or you can fill in the form online here; https://rmhc.org.uk/photo-consent/

Do Use An Online Giving Page

JustGiving is a great platform for collecting donations, and saves you the hassle of getting your fundraising to us as funds are automatically transferred.

Don’t forget about Licenses

Raffles, lotteries, and sweepstakes are all great fundraisers, but they fall under gambling laws in the UK so you need to be sure you’re acting legally. Street collections also often need a license or permission before collecting.

Check in with your local council to find out about the rules in your local area or visit the Gambling Commission for the latest guidance and advice. If you need any help with this, your local community fundraiser will be happy to help you.

Do Talk About Us

Talk about why you are fundraising for us! People are much more likely to donate if you tell them why you have chosen to support us, and how their donations will help us to support families with children in hospital across our 12 Houses in the UK.

Don’t Forget About Gift Aid

Gift Aid means that we can claim an extra 25p for every £1 donated by a taxpayer, at no extra cost to them! For online giving platforms this is automated, but if you’re donating via another method, we need a signed Gift Aid declaration form for us to claim for your donation, so please get in touch for a form.

Not all donations qualify for Gift Aid, for example if your donor receives an item in return i.e. raffle ticket. We are happy to help check Gift Aid requirements with you.

Do Be Careful With Data

If you’re collecting any personal data, please make sure that you are respecting the law around General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Visit the Gov UK website for more information and tips to remain compliant with the law whilst fundraising.

Don’t Forget About Food & Alcohol

If you’re planning on serving food and alcohol during your fundraising, you may need to apply for an alcohol license. It’s also important to ensure that you get copies of food hygiene certificates from any caterers.

Check with your local council and visit the Food Standards Agency website for more information.

Do Ask About Matched Funding

Many employers offer matched funding, which can provide a fantastic top up to your fundraising total, and help you to smash your target!

Don’t Miss Out on Recognition

Avoid using fundraising platforms like GoFundMe or Facebook, these sites don’t provide information to us about your fundraising, and it makes it hard for us to recognise you for your achievements!
