COVID-19 Winter Precautions

November 12, 2020

As we approach the winter months, our team here at Ronald McDonald House Charities UK have put plans in place to safeguard the health and safety of staff and families in our Houses.

With the pandemic continuing and Covid-19 cases still being reported across the UK, keeping our families and our House teams safe and well remains a top priority for us.

As well as the existing high standards of cleanliness and safety in our Houses, we have also introduced the following precautions:

  • Track and Trace: Everyone entering or leaving our Houses must scan their phone across the displayed QR code. We continue to share our own health questionnaires for families to fill in when they arrive to stay in our Houses.
  • Face coverings: Our staff wear face coverings on entry to and when in public areas of the House. Families staying in our Houses are also required to wear face coverings in communal areas.
  • Sneeze screens: Sneeze screens are now in place in Houses that have a reception area, to protect both staff and families.
  • Temperature checks: All staff (including the Security personnel at our Houses) have their temperature taken when they enter the House to ensure they are fit and well. Families staying in our Houses have their temperature taken on arrival and when returning from a home visit.
  • Enhanced cleaning and sanitation: There is additional enhanced cleaning of all our communal spaces including kitchens, offices and reception areas throughout the week. Bedrooms are currently left for 72 hours before cleaning them for a new family.
  • Visitor guidelines: We are keeping external visitors to the Houses to a minimum. Anyone planning to enter our Houses, will be required to fill in a visitor request form to ensure only essential visitors are permitted to enter the Houses. Any essential visitors entering the House will undergo temperature checks and be required to wear face coverings and fill in our health questionnaire.

We are confident these precautions will continue to help us keep families safe in our Houses, so they can support their child in hospital at this time.
