History of family-centred care

Before family-centred care became a recognised movement in health care, Ronald McDonald House Charities UK was founded with a mission to keep families close to their seriously ill children whilst they receive specialist care.

Over the years, a growing body of research has provided strong evidence that demonstrates the value of that mission, highlighting the physical, emotional and social needs of families with a hospitalised child and confirming the importance of proximity, involvement, education and partnership that are the cornerstones of family-centred care.

But where did the concept of family-centred care start?
