Ronald McDonald House Charities UK has been McDonald’s charity of choice since the Charity was founded in the UK in 1989.
McDonald’s continues to be an essential, valuable and sustaining partner, supporting our Charity in many ways.
Collection Boxes in Restaurants
The biggest gift that McDonald’s and their franchisees have ever given us is the opportunity to place our collection boxes in their restaurants across the UK. In 2017, these boxes provided Ronald McDonald House Charities UK with over £3 million donated by generous McDonald’s customers. We’re so grateful to each and every customer who gave their spare change; your donations are used exclusively by Ronald McDonald House Charities UK, primarily to build new Houses.
Cashless Donations via Kiosks
In October 2019, McDonald’s introduced an exciting new way for customers in restuarants to donate what they can to our Charity. Customers ordering from kiosks can now round up to the nearest pound or give set donations of 1p, 10p and 20p of which 100% is given to Ronald McDonald House Charities UK.
Help and support
McDonald’s and its restaurant owners’ kindness stretches far beyond this. In 2017, McDonald’s Restaurants Ltd and its franchisees donated nearly £1.5 million from sales to Ronald McDonald House Charities UK.
On top of this, McDonald’s holds annual fundraising days and in 2018, restaurants across the UK raised £500,000 by selling soft toys and fundraising in restaurants. McDonald’s also offers important organisational support by providing office space, general and administrative support, payroll, HR support, IT and computer systems, all over the UK.
Fundraising and volunteering
McDonald’s staff, crew and Franchisees regularly fundraise for the Charity. We’re constantly amazed by their energy and creativity, taking on anything from sponsored cycles as far afield as Madagascar, to the Whole Hog, a muddy obstacle course. Teams from McDonald’s often volunteer at our Houses, offering enthusiastic support to our House teams. Their support helps us to run existing Ronald McDonald Houses and build new ones, meaning even more families can stay close to their children.
